What is Lifestyle Medicine (LM)
Lifestyle Medicine uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including, but not limited to, Cardiovascular Diseases, Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity etc.
Lifestyle Medicine Certified Clinicians are trained to apply evidence-based, whole-person, prescriptive lifestyle changes to treat and, when used intensively, often reverse such conditions

The Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine
1. Environmental Exposure
Clean air, safe water, and reduced toxins support well-being. Sustainable living and eco-friendly choices promote long-term health.
2. Nutrition
Whole, nutrient-rich foods improve energy and health. Minimizing processed foods and excess sugar supports overall wellness.
3. Physical Activity
Regular movement boosts energy, mood, and fitness. Reducing sedentary time contributes to long-term health.
4. Sexual Health & Fertility
Safe practices, hormonal balance, and well-being influence reproductive health. Lifestyle factors play a key role.
5. Sleep Hygiene
Consistent sleep routines and relaxation improve rest and daily function. Quality sleep supports mental and physical health.
6. Social Connections
Strong relationships enhance happiness, emotional resilience, and overall life satisfaction.
7. Stress Management
Managing stress through relaxation and balance improves emotional well-being.
8. Substance Use
Limiting harmful substances supports long-term health and overall well-being.
Lifestyle Medicine encompasses research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dysfunctions caused by a non-physiological lifestyle (lifestyle-related diseases, LRDs) and morbidogenic environments conducive to promoting such lifestyles.
The ultimate goal and primary focus of Lifestyle Medicine is to promote healthier lives through salutary environments and healthier lifestyle choices. Treatment of LRDs includes nutritional, exercise, psychological, social, economic and environmental interventions. To successfully do this requires education, training and communication about Lifestyle Medicine at the professional and general public.
